ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY

First Responders Training
Employees working with and/or responding to emergencies involving hazardous materials and hazardous wastes are required by OSHA to receive one or more mandatory OSHA training courses depending on the scope of their responsibly. OSHA can cite and fine their employers for failing to provide mandatory training. These hazmat courses provide the mandatory employee training required by the following OSHA Standards: Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen, HAZWOPER, and Respiratory Protection. Most OSHA standards require initial and annual refresher training.

These courses provide affected employees with an understanding of:

  • Specific hazards posed by the various types of hazardous materials.
  • Resources available to employees and emergency responders in identifying hazardous materials.
  • Safe work practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Regulatory requirements of several OSHA and EPA regulations pertaining to the safe handling and legal disposal of hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

The EPA also requires RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Training for employees handling and disposing of hazardous waste.
